Allergy Testing

Lindsey and I met her allergist this week.
We have bad news and good:

Bad: She had to have skin testing done. Good: She was a champ and fell asleep in my arms soon after to wait out the 15 minutes.

Bad: She's allergic to Eggs. And Soy. And Sesame. Good: She's not allergic to Milk.

Bad: All the energy spent on a diary free diet while I was breast feeding her when that wasn't the problem. Good: We're weaning to Similac Sensitive formula and she loves yogurt!

Bad: Egg or Soy is in nearly everything. Good: They're not in the Gerber Sweet Potato Puffs.

Bad: We have to worry about the potential for allergies that either didn't show today or weren't tested. Good: We have an Epi Pen Jr. on hand now just in case.

Bad: There's lots of absolutely useless information out there. Good: Websites like Blue Bear Aware are wonderful and the Muppets have actually done a skit to help teach people about food allergies.

Thank you, Dr. R and staff, you were wonderful!

The Beach

We spent June 20-27 at Litchfield Beach, SC in a condo of sea-green, periwinkle, coral and white wicker! It was heavenly. Each morning we spent several hours playing on the beach, came in for lunch, then had an afternoon activity that varied from the Family Kingdom Amusement Park to lunch at Pier 14. The two exceptions were the day we went to the pool instead of the beach and the day we chose to stay out of the sun and went to Ripley's Aquarium. Dinner each night was at the Hot Fish, the beach home where the majority of our 23 person family was staying. I made a slide show of our pictures, so as not to post too many here but not deny you the fun times, either. Last year there were several problems with getting the slide show to disply in Blogger right, so this time you get a link. If you hover your mouse over each picture you'll pause it and get little caption. Or you can chose the "Gallery View" and it goes a little faster and includes the captions.

Things to note:
The bruise on Natalie's forehead which she obtained the first night
The fact that strangers can never seem to take a decent photo of my family
The way Lindsey's hair stuck up because it was so hard to wash all the sunscreen out

I can not wait until next year!

Siamese Gerbras

** The images aren't showing for some reason and I'm on not-my-laptop at the beach. Guess you'll have to wait. Sorry. =)

In the mean time you can anticipate even greater beach pictures!

Welcome, Walt!

Natalie would like to welcome you to her home. (And I would like to welcome you back!) She developed a sudden interest in many of your movies and seems to be developing an attention span long enough to withstand a (G-rated Disney) movie. However, she would like to suggest some changes. They are as follows:

The following logo, when read out loud is pronounced no longer as "movie" but is now read as "Baby Einstein"

~~~
The title of this movie be changed to "Sleeping Princess"
~~~

Nemo and his "Mommy and Daddy" shout "Where are you?" throughout the movie

~~~
This is the moment when "Cinderwewa" becomes a princess, not at the wedding
~~~

Bambi and his parents are members of the Caribou family

~~~
The title of this movie be changed to "Play Story" and the character on the right be referred to simply as "Space Man"
~~~

The affection "Silly Bear" be taken away from that yellow guy and be given to Baloo instead

~~~
Thank you, Walt and family; and again, Welcome (back)!
Gymanstics!
Natalie loves gymnastics. I love that she loves gymnastics. I love that she appears to be the kind of kid who will be good at gymnastics. (She should thank her father for that.) I love that it will help her with coordination, with strength, with concentration, with self esteem. I love her coaches and the way this program is run, and that she's introduced to new apparatuses and skills each week.
During the 2024 Summer Olympics you will be able to reflect on this blog post and say
"I knew her when...."
Finally, a summer sault:
Judges?
It's a 10!
I've still go it!
The following conversation occurred at approximately 8:10pm tonight:
Bag Boy: Would you like some help out with these?
(3 bags, no kids in tote, but sure!)
Me: (realizing I'm rubbing my shoulder)
Yes, actually that would be great, my arm is really sore.
What happened to your arm?
I got booster shot today, I'd forgotten how bad they can hurt.
If you get a tattoo you won't think shots hurt anymore.
(not true, I've treated plenty of tattooed who were terrified of a shot)
I never could get over the 'permanent' factor of a tattoo.
You just have to put something on there you want forever.
For-e-ver (think "Sandlot")
Like your Boyfriend's name.
(ha, boyfriend!) then (never a good idea!)
I'm married and have two kids; I don't think getting my boyfriend's name would be a good idea.
(he doesn't laugh ~ i thought it was pretty witty)
Your kid's name then.
(hrm, he didn't recommend the hubby's name)
Thanks for your help, Goodnight!
Brooke, Looks like you're not the only one whose still got it!
Hair Tourniquet
Lindsey was unusually fussy Friday morning and it took me until 11:00 to find a hair wrapped around her finger.
(this is an after picture)
Luckily it was just wrapped once and I was able to break it and slide it out. I've seen them so severe we've actually wondered if a toe was going to survive. Poor Lins; we're so thankful nothing is seriously wrong with her, but she does seem to have/get a lot of baby issues.
